Apples + Cinnamon + Butter = YUM! This recipe is so simple and great for dessert, brunch or bringing a loaf to check out the new neighbors. Moist on the inside, with crunchy pecans and a delicious cinnamon crumble on top. You simply cannot go wrong with this bread!
Since I was a kid, I have always loved to cook (although, I have not always been very good at it). My mother had a box of her Grandmother's recipes that I was never allowed to touch because they were so old. Some of the recipes were my Great, Great Grandmother's, in her own handwriting! Many of these were incomplete, or just notes on amounts of ingredients. Back then, they couldn't just google a recipe for anything they were in the mood for. I decided for a 'quarantine project' that I would go through these recipes, complete them and modernize them to share with all of you! This process all started with this little recipe card.
As you can see, there was not a whole lot to go off of! This apple dutch cake recipe leaves out the apple, which I would assume is the most important part. After lots of experimenting, I was able to come up with a bread packed full of flavor, moist on the inside with crunchy pecans on the inside. What a treat this is!
I chose to make this as a loaf for brunch (feels a little bit better than eating cake for brunch). You definitely can make this as a cake! Just adjust the cook time based on sized cake you make.

Apple Dutch Bread
Prep Time: 10 Minutes
Cook Time: 1 Hour 15 Minutes
Yield: One Loaf
Ingredients
Loaf
2 cups Flour
1 cup Sugar
1/2 cup Butter (melted)
1 cup Milk
1 Egg
2 tsp Baking Powder
1 tsp Cinnamon
1/2 tsp Nutmeg
1tsp Salt
4 Medium Apples
1/2 cup Chopped Pecans
Crumb Topping
2 tbsp Butter
1/2 tsp Nutmeg
1/2 tsp Cinnamon
4 tsp Flour
3 tsp Brown Sugar (regular sugar will also work)
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees and grease a loaf pan with cooking spray or butter & flour.
In a large bowl mix all cake ingredients except apples and pecans. Mix until smooth.
Peel the apples and then shred with a grater. Fold into the batter along with the pecans. If you do not have a grater, you can finely chop the apples.
Pour into loaf pan and bake for an hour and fifteen minutes. Check by inserting a toothpick into the center of the loaf. If it comes out clean, the cake is done. Immediately top with crumb topping (instructions below) and wait until cool to eat.
Prep the topping by mixing all ingredients together with your fingers. Break up any large pieces of butter.
